King Srnjaya's wish for more gold destroyed his son Survarnashthivi
King Srnjaya was once blessed with a child who used to do excreta and spit up only gold. That excessive craving for gold killed the king's child. Seeing the king grieving over the passing of his loving child, Narada comforted him by talking about the huge contributions of sixteen kings named King Maruta, Suhotra, Pourava, Shibi, Lord Rama, Bhagiratha, Dilipa, Mandhata, Yayati, Ambarisha, Sasabindu, Gaya, Rantideba, Bharata, Prithu, Lord Parashurama who despite gaining heavenliness through their principled acts and by giving tremendous Dakshinas at the end, died as well. Death is certain. We all are going to die one day and we can't alter reality. In case we remain connected to the Materialistic world, our bodies will pass on but our souls will never get salvation. In Bhagawat Gita, it is specified that, after a body dies, the soul carries its nature to another birth Unless people free themselves from this Materialistic world and do noble acts or karma. This post is about King Srnjaya confronting the consequences of his greed and afterwards getting the solution from Narada. Sage Vyasa had referred this subject to Yudhishthira to support him after the passing of Abhimanyu.
Narada and Parvata were the two sage friends of King Srnjaya of the Puru dynasty. They both once went to his kingdom. The ruler worshipped them and made arrangements for their stay. One day the ruler Srnjaya beside his two friends sitting all together saw his daughter approaching
there. Charmed by her magnificence, Parvata inquired about her introduction. King told them about his girl. Narada at that time asked the ruler for his
daughter's hand. Seeing Narada asking to wed the same woman whom he had chosen first, infuriated Parvata, and cursed Narada that he wouldn't be able to go to
heaven as per his wish.
Narada told Parvata, that only after being certain of the choice, by committing through the wordings, with appropriate ceremonies, and through chanting mantras in rituals a groom can claim a woman by means of Panigrahan. Consequently, Narada also cursed him back by saying, that Parvata would not be able to go to heaven without Narada. Both of them then didn't proceed further.
During those days ruler Srnjaya with the intention of getting a son worshiped numerous Brahmins, provided them with dress, and nourishment, and pleased them. Those Brahmins used to keep their intellect in asceticism and Swadhyay continuously. They all came close to Narada and requested him to give the king a child as per his wish. Narada concurred and wished to give the king the boon. King Srnjaya wished for a forceful child who would give him gold by spitting up and crying, urinating, and releasing stool. Narada granted. The child was born and named Subarnastibi accordingly. He began expanding the riches of the king day by day. All the shelters, as well as materials, were built in gold within the kingdom.

Burglars got to be aware of the abundance of riches in the kingdom caused by the child. They thought of capturing the child rather than burglary within the kingdom. Subsequently, they entered the royal residence and abducted the child. Having no clue how to get the gold from the child, those stupid robbers cut the child's body into pieces and after that murdered him. Due to the fact of not getting any gold, they all assaulted each other and finished up dead too.
Seeing the terrible passing of his son, King was in deep
distress. Narada consoled him by talking about the incredible contributions
made by the sixteen righteous rulers who too passed on after being
sacred through performing their yajnas and giving Dakshinas whereas his son had
not even gone through both of these. Narada prompted the king not to grieve over
his child and conjointly told him that death is certain even to the king and
those who would be more virtuous than the king.
King Srnjaya calmed down after hearing about those sixteen extraordinary lords and was obliged to Narada. All his distresses were gone. Narada at that point wished to give the king a boon in this time lord asked him nothing but to remain satisfied with him continuously. At that point, glad Narada gave the king his son Subarnastibi back. The ruler was cheerful to see his compelling son lively.
